My name is Xan.
I was born and raised in New York City, and first became a student of light when I picked up an old camera and some black and white film as a teenager. Ever since, I've focused on creating images that illicit emotion, especially when using the digital medium.
There are millions alive today who, with the latest gear, can take technically perfect photographs. My target is not technical or composite perfection. I strive to create images that create strong feelings. Images that span the spectrum of emotion, and envelope the observer. In my experience, a level of imperfection can be the missing ingredient to achieve this goal. Clipped shadows, blown out highlights, unexpected composition, unnatural white balance - with the right care, these can be an photographic artist's most powerful tools.
I currently live full time in Hong Kong, and run a small technology company when I'm not out shooting.
